Currently am working at Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI) Kigoma center located on Lake Tanganyika. As a fisheries research officer, my duty and responsibility include conducting research in the lake (fisheries and limnology), researching on Tanzania marine water and other aquatic related research. Please view my CV for more details in a pdf format

My M.Sc. thesis has explored the spatial and temporal change of mangrove of Mtoni-Kijichi in          Dar es salaam, Tanzania. The study investigated the historical black and white aerial photographs (1967-1992) and  IKONOS satellite image (2005), and estimated the effect of rural-urban migration effect on the mangrove forest at Mzinga creek in terms of total area covered by individual species . I used Geographical Information System to come up with the results, for more on this topic please have a look on my  thesis presentation.

Currently am doing a PhD at Radboud University in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. My research topic is:

Habitat detection by tropical juvenile reef fishes - the role of conspecific and environmental cues
The study is set up to reveal the mechanisms on how fish larvae find mangroves and seagrass habitat when settling from the open ocean, and how subadult fish find the coral reef after having grown up in these nurseries. This will provide more and new insights into the mechanisms of connectivity between and among these ecosystems. Current knowledge indirectly indicates that mangroves and seagrass beds may play a very important role as juvenile habitats for several (commercially important) fish species. Mangroves and seagrass beds are degrading rapidly around the world, knowledge on the connectivity between these degrading systems will be valuable to the establishment of Marine Protected Areas and for conservation, management, and sustainable exploitation of these important coastal resources and the systems in general.
